Field Day

We had a great field day! The Orange and Osceola teams did an outstanding job! Setup started around 0830 and was completed by 1030 with few issues. We installed one G5RV on the parking garage between the light poles. Two more dipoles were installed on the pneumatic mast in the side parking lot. We operated 4 HF stations of which one was PSK. We had a great deal of fun and comraderie. The food was great, and it was nice to work Field Day in the air conditioning! Thanks to the Orange County team for making it a great field day and cooking some great meals! Thumbs up to our Osceola County EM team for hosting field day at the EOC. Orange and Osceola ARES teams during a bird watching competition. Dean won the contest with the having the longest stare. Dean telling Mike that he can find shade and air conditioning inside the EOC. Rich Halquist of Osceola EM trying to recruit new hams. Bill supervising Joe and Joe on how to install an "N" connector on LMR 400 coax while Rich Halquist observes from the distance.

Additional stations

We also had a Packet station Saturday afternoon and part of Sunday. Using that Packet station on Saturday, Barry N2DB sent a message on the SEDAN network (Southeastern Digital Association Networks) to the State Warning Point, at the State EOC in Tallahassee.
Barry erected a collapsible sixteen foot self suporting pole in the side parking lot, not far from the doors, and attached a small dual band VHF / UHF antenna to the pole. This is what he used for Packet operations during the event. Easy and effective.

Also, Jacques N4JCV had a Digital D-Star Access Point (DVAP) setup at the EOC on Saturday Afternoon. While there are not currently any nearby D-Star repeaters, Jacques was able to use the Internet connection on his Notebook PC to put the Osceola County EOC on the D-Star map for the day.
